Small business is a passion of mine. I love supporting businesses that will help my local community thrive. Reviving the community in rural areas is so beneficial and you can help do that by shopping local and supporting small! So, this week I am highlighting a few of my favorite businesses in the surrounding area. I would love to hear what local businesses you love to shop at as well.
1. Vintage Matters Sodus, NY
When this store first opened, I was so excited. The owners refinish and update furniture, but they also sell more than that. There are handmade goods and décor items that are just the cutest. I have bought three furniture items, tons of great décor items and gifts over the years. I LOVE the style and the fact that the items are usually handmade. They are also a great go to store if you want to refinish your own furniture. Their line of Fusion Mineral paints and decals can bring new life to any piece of furniture!

2. Imprint Coffee Sodus, NY
This shop opened just about the same time as I moved to Wolcott. The husband-and-wife pair had been running a coffee truck and then moved to a brick and motor business in Sodus. They roast all their own coffee and are at almost every local community event. Their coffee is delicious, and they are the nicest people. I was so happy to see almost every restaurant in the area switched to serving their coffee. They even have a coffee subscription program where they deliver the coffee right to your door on a set schedule! If I am even remotely heading south from Huron I make sure to stop and get a Maple Latte and a Blueberry Muffin.

3. Sodus Feeds and Needs, Sodus, NY
This store recently moved to a new location on Ridge Road. All your animal feed needs, and country décor items can be found at Sodus Feeds and Needs. They are a family-owned business and hold auctions for different farm equipment items throughout the year. My favorite item they sell are the Pure Integrity Candles! I found these candles in the main store located in Buffalo, NY and was shocked to see them at Sodus Feeds and Needs a few years ago. The candles are soy based and smell so good. The wood tops can be returned and reused also! My chickens and doggies love when I visit this store because they almost always get treats.

4. Sterling Cidery Fair Haven, NY
Jana and Brandon opened Sterling Cidery in 2019 in the heart of the bay town, Fair Haven. They produce all of their own ciders with unique flavors and twists. Also on the menu are other local ciders and wines. They host local musicians on their porch throughout the summer and have a bonfire pit going on the weekends. If you are lucky enough Jana will have her baked goods available when you visit. Her bread is delicious and is available at another area favorite restaurant called Stick & Rudder. This place feels like home and is a must visit if you are in the area. They are opening for the season 3/12/2021!

5. The Dog Eared Book Store, Palmyra, NY
I found this shop through Facebook and was so excited when I did. I drove down to Palmyra and stocked up on a few books for a trip I was going on. Carrie was so nice and so helpful and has her bookstore mascot, her dog, there with here throughout the day. If you purchase her branded tote bag, she gives you a discount for every time you bring it in and shop. She also has a punch card for purchasing books, and ships to your house for free if you spend over $25 on her online shop! She recently started a book club that I am excited to participate in this year! If you have a literature lover in your life, this is a one stop shop for the cutest gifts and the best books.

6. Saltbox Smokehouse, Sodus, NY
When you think of New York, you might not think Smokehouse BBQ. But The Saltbox Smokehouse changes all of that. They smoke all their own meat and sell meals, cold-cuts, and my favorite beef jerky. They are always running specials throughout the week and you can count on every, one of them being excellent. One of my favorite specials is their loaded potato. They allow you to pick your own meat, sauce, and toppings for the perfect flavor combo. They do to-go orders and it is really convenient to call ahead and pick up on road trips down 104.
7. Café 19, Seneca Falls, NY
This is a new find for me, and a good one at that. I found this cute little café after going to work out at Start to Fit down the road. They have the cutest baked goods and excellent food. Their café is themed after the 19th Amendment that gave women the right to vote! The whole vibe is women empowerment and is just the best place for breakfast and coffee on Saturday mornings.
8. The Purple Painted Lady Festival, Palmyra, NY
The Purple Painted Lady is a store that you can visit, but the real showstopper is the festival! Each year on the lawn of the owner’s house she hosts hundreds of vendors of handmade items. It is by far the BEST craft/show festival I have ever been to. You can get your Christmas shopping done for everyone on your list and find some of the most unique items for yourself. I highly recommend taking the trip to Palmyra for this festival in September.
10. Youngman’s Farmstand, Sodus, NY
Another great family-owned business right off the point in Sodus, NY. Youngman’s is your one stop shop for produce, bread, coffee, wine, meat, and everything in between. I was lucky enough to have flowers here one weekend in July this year when the field was over producing. The family was the absolute nicest and their stand is BUSY! If you want to make sure you get your Salt Bread or meat make sure you are there right when they open Saturday mornings. They just hosted a Valentine’s Day event where you could pre-order goodies for pick up. Also, if you lucky the Truck’s Rolling Food Truck will be there serving up local favorites.

10. Lunkenheimer Brewery at the Bay, Sodus, NY
If you have spent any time in CNY, then you most likely have heard of Lukenheimer brewery. Last year they opened a satellite location on the east side of Bay Bridge in Wolcott, and it is the perfect stop for a pint of locally crafted beer and to catch up with your friends. We just stopped there a few weekends ago as we passed on the snowmobile trail. I tried their Blood Orange Kolsch and was pleasantly surprised with the taste of summer. It is going to be the local watering hole as soon as things open a little more in New York State.
